Communications Manager

We are seeking a Communications Manager to join our UK Communications team based in Hammersmith.

This role will initially be offered as a freelance position with the potential to be extended.

Aims of the Job

As the Communications Manager, you will deliver communications for Integrated Retail (licensing, Halo Fashion and Disney Store), Franchises and Cross Company initiatives in UK media, managing the day-to-day implementation of campaigns and press office activity.

Acting as the key point of contact for Communications on projects you will work alongside the team to build creative plans which support the business goals, generate traditional, digital and internal coverage, drive excitement and engagement with the target audiences, and where possible have a commercial impact.

Additionally, you will need to work in an integrated capacity with the regional PR team on various franchises or strategic initiatives. On these integrated teams, the goal is for that team to develop strategies, plans and media assets for use across European markets.  


Key responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing the day-to-day implementation of campaigns to support Disney Retail and Franchise initiatives, utilising the team and external agencies, encouraging creative and innovative approaches
  • Delivering publicity across a range of media including nationals, consumer, broadcast and digital
  • Maintaining excellent contacts with the media and constantly seek out new opportunities to grow your network
  • Helping to define media strategy around specific campaigns and initiatives to deliver the best possible results
  • Creating compelling media materials and assets to help drive coverage across a range of traditional and digital media
  • Working with external stakeholders including licensees and partners to amplify their plans, drive media coverage and achieve commercial success
  • Building relationships with a key network of teams and senior stakeholders across the company (e.g. Retail, Disney Store, Franchise, Digital etc.) to best understand priorities, ensure all press opportunities are maximised and provide recommendations from a Comms perspective
  • Working with the events team to maximise events for Retail, including showcases and junkets
  • Ensuring work is effectively delegated across the team and proactively flag any pressure points on specific campaigns or potential issues
  • Driving the evaluation process on key campaigns and ensure learnings are shared with the team
  • Nurturing the team and providing guidance, as well as the management and development of the UK Communications Supervisor
  • Managing up to the Head of Retail Communications and the Director of Communications, ensuring they are kept apprised of activities and progress.


Candidate Profile

You’ll have:

  • Proven past experience with both external (traditional and digital) and internal communications
  • Excellent experience of managing end-to-end campaigns from development and planning through to delivery in a large, complex environment
  • A track-record of developing creative campaigns across different media and an ability to generate ideas and PR opportunities
  • Experience of developing media strategy to deliver the best results across varied outlets
  • Able to manage external agencies and able to draft agency briefs and select preferred partners
  • Good commercial awareness and budget management skills
  • Experience of managing a press-office
  • A proven track record of team management including coaching, mentoring and motivating
  • Ability to manage internal stakeholders and secure their support on plans, budgets etc.
  • Excellent media industry insight and connections.
