Business Affairs Executive (part-time) – O4289

Doc Society is an innovative non-profit organisation founded in 2005 that works with the most inspiring documentary film makers all over the world.

Doc Society has been designated the BFI’s delegate partner to run the BFI Documentary Film Fund.

As a result Doc Society is looking for an experienced individual with a passion for non-fiction to take on the key role of Business Affairs Executive for the Fund.

This is a part-time role, contracted to 2 days a week. 


You will administer all contracts for the fund and grantees selected for funding, across both features and shorts. You will also work closely with filmmakers, advising them on finance plans, rights clearances, finance agreements, sales agent agreements.

Key Responsibilities -  

  • Assess applications and finance plans to aid in the assessment of potential projects.
  • Attend decision making meetings and contribute to the decision making process.
  • Support filmmakers and provide insight into production legal issues.
  • Review and validate agreements that may exist with other financiers.
  • Provide legal advise to filmmakers and attend events to explain contracting process to potential grantees.
  • Administer and negotiate the Fund’s agreements with selected grantees and create reports to present sales statistics.



With extensive experience in a similar business affairs role within independent documentary films, you will have excellent legal negotiating skills and the ability to communicate with people at all levels.

You will have strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, excellent writing skills, and be able to keep calm in a pressurised environment.

A broad knowledge and passion for documentary filmmaking is absolutely crucial for this role.
