Senior Camera Operator – London Broadcast Centre

Al Jazeera English are seeking an experienced ENG Camera/Edit Operators to join the team at our London Broadcast Centre, and fulfil a key role at the core of the station’s European news gathering operations.



You will be an experienced multi-skilled camera/edit operator with extensive experience of using the latest HD camera equipment. 

You will be a master of your craft possessing the ability to shoot and edit material to tight deadlines whilst on deployment, and master the transmission of edited packages and live two-ways using latest generation satellite and standard IP connections.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operation of ENG equipment including: Cameras, Sound, Lighting, Non Linear Editing (FCP & Premier), Aviwest, Dejero, BGAN.
  • The acquisition of News and Programmes footage on location and delivery of edited packages and live links to Broadcast Centres.
  • Extensive foreign travel and the ability to work safely and effectively in hostile and dangerous environments including war-zones.
  • Able to look after and maintain ENG equipment to the highest standards.
  • Document and report any technical problems encountered with ENG equipment.


The Ideal Candidate 

Key Skills, Knowledge & Experience:

  • You must have demonstrable operational experience of working within a television news environment.
  • Be a fluent English speaker who is eligible to work in the UK.
  • Be willing to work in extreme and sometime hostile environments.
  • Have experience of working in a high pressure environment with the ability to work effectively to tight deadlines.
  • Have a high level of flexibility, resilience and attention to detail in a ‘breaking news’ environment.
  • Work effectively in a team, and professionally represent Al Jazeera while on deployment.
  • Possess strong storytelling, editorial, interpersonal and organizational skills.
