Head of Newsroom Technology

The award-winning Centre for Journalism at the University of Kent seeks an exceptional technology evangelist to help us keep our 3 newsrooms, 2 radio studios and 3 TV studios at the cutting edge of the media industry for our journalism staff and students.

ABOUT THE ROLE
We’re looking for an exceptional technology evangelist to help us keep our 3 newsrooms, 2 radio studios, and 3 TV studios at the cutting edge of the media industry for our journalists, staff and students. 

Key Responsibilities

As Head of Newsroom Technology you will:
  • Organise and plan deployment of the department’s multimedia newsgathering equipment
  • Design and maintain the centre’s newsrooms and radio and television broadcast studios
  • Manage the department’s networks of Apple Mac computers
  • Specify and facilitate purchase of appropriate audio and video recording technology and associated accessories.

ABOUT YOU
You’ll be an unflappable individual with a proven track record in broadcast and multimedia technology, with an excellent grasp of networked Apple computer devices and web technologies. 

You will be equally excited at the prospect of helping us to develop our technical strategy and make informed purchasing decisions as you will about demonstrating news-gathering and broadcast workflows to our brilliant students. 

You will also play an important advisory role with KMTV, our award-winning joint venture project with the KM Group, available on Freeview channel 7, Virgin channel 159, and online at kmtv.co.uk.

To be successful in this role you will have:
  • Degree or equivalent in relevant subject area
  • Up-to-date knowledge of current digital broadcasting technologies for news-gathering, studio production and broadcasting
  • Familiarity with audio and video editing software and other multi-media production software.
